(More customer reviews)The most advanced computing technologies are under development today. This journal documents some of the research now under way that will bring those technologies to market. This month, one article describes algorithms for placing and routing electrofluidic circuits for "lab on a chip" technology, for processing nanoliter droplets of biological or chemical samples. Two others describe how quantum computing could work, or how to analyze their operating charactertistics. The last article adds several kinds of storage elements based on reversible logic. Since it steers bits rather than creating or destroying them, conservative logic can compute using energy levels far lower than the usual kT limit - one possible way to ease current problems in power cooling. The ideas are "out there," but rigorously developed and held to the highest standards of peer review.
